Deck Guide: Tempo Mage (Standard)

Mage Decks July 8, 2016 1 9

Tempo Mage is an archetype that’s here to stay – it’s fun and reliable. This version is quite fast and although it can be challenging for beginners, an intermediate player should settle right into it after a couple of evenings.

Beginner’s Guide: Disenchanting and Crafting

Beginners June 14, 2016 8 26

What cards to craft? Should you disenchant a card you’ve just got and are not using? The crafting component of Hearthstone is often tricky to navigate for beginners, and without guidance it’s easy to lose a lot of hard-earned (or hard-bought !) resources. Here are some starting tips to help you avoid that!

Awesome commentary as usual, Nuba! Just let me say that the Red Ridding Hood reference came from World of Warcraft, an encounter in Karazhan is a theater where random children's fables are played - RRH being one of the possible outcomes - and the players get to take part in taking be bad guys down. :D

Hi there! Thank you for the comment! Indeed the 0 draw is a big weakness in this deck, and it means that if you trade unfavorably - for example if you lose 3 minions to a Druid taunt - it's over. I find it very challenging to help people understand when to make the switch to face because it's very situational. I would say that against classes that have a lot of valuable drops in the late game - again, druid - I would play super aggro, literally go face, racing against the clock because I know that if he drops that Dark Arakkoa, it's over. Priest is usually a bad match-up too as you can usually trade very favorably but they run a lot of removal nowadays and can starve you for cards. That said, almost all of your cards pack a punch and I have often out-valued priests with my single, once-a-turn default draw. On the other hand, other than these big taunts and massive priest removal, very few things can stop this deck. You can usually out-trade VS aggro decks and rush to lethal vs control decks. And again, you can always put an acolyte in and hope for the best - though I personally prefer to play Finley and hope for Warlock power.

No pleasure from the killing blow? That's very ZEN. :) To each his own, ofc. :D

Hey! Thank you for the comment. :) I 100% agree, and that's why I wrote "so long as they don’t waste your time", like buffing minions when hey already have lethal. As Chris Rock says: "You gotta respect the kill." But quitting on someone that's just messing around is not being a bad sport, it's teaching him / her manners.

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Nuba. I find it wonderful to see so much variety even on the qualifier scene. Hearthstone is indeed at top form right now!

It's the only paladin deck I've been playing lately and it is solid. Performs especially well against Zoo so far. I would consider Fjola in the faster version of the deck, the one with 2x blessings. Otherwise, there are too few activators. Would remove Tirion and Justicar for the Blessings, Owl for Fjola.

Shaman is hard, but doable. Mulligan for Frostbolt. Keep fireballs for Thing From the Deep or the stupid 7/7 for 4 mana + overload dudes. Focus on clearing his board - you can build you when he runs out of steam.

I don't like polymorph boar, I find it too circumstantial. Would rather trade a Fireball for a second Polymorph.

Thank you! I find the Argus useful because it helps get a bit more mileage from the C'Thun followers, which in most cases are just a body on the board after they buff C'Thun.

I've been playing this almost non-stop this weekend, together with my C'Thun Mage, and I love it. Great job, Stonekeep! My tweak: I've swapped out one of the Flame Jugglers for a Lightning Storm, and haven't looked back - always had a use for it. But I do miss the little dude, so I'll probably swap out the Master of Evolution for that second Juggler, as I find this deck has no short supply of meaty dudes. Thanks for the guide!

An extra Twilight Elder is a solid add, it usually meshes decently with the Argus past the mid-game. While I really love my Azure Drakes I have to admit this deck usually doesn't run out of steam. They're mostly there to get you on more card closer to C'Thun.

Thanks! I wouldn't remove the Disciple so easily, but the Mirror Image is a solid swap indeed. If you really want some Flamewalker power, I'd swap out both Faceless.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions! Remember to give Nuba's Tempo Mage a try as well, it's super fun (for those who, like me, love & embrace the RNG) and at the low end of the ranks, it's even faster! :)

Hey vamp. Well, at least you got it! :D You could indeed have researched a bit more - in fact this very article explains how to quickly find anything in the capital city. :D But hey, no use crying over spilled milk. At least be happy you had good judgement in doing the quests - they reward you much more experience than simply killing enemies over and over! As for pets, Warlocks also get them. :)

Hi Alumin! Sure - though under level 20 there's not a lot to go by. All worgen characters can get a 10-second speed boost called Darkflight, but the cool down is two minutes, so not very usable. Monks get the ability to roll at lvl5, every 20 seconds, so that's a bit better. Warriors can charge quickly toward an enemy, on a very small cool down.
